Lean Left
It's critical to start and keep your weight toward your front foot during the entire motion of a bunker shot. This encourages the club to sustain its speed through impact, which in turn creates the wave of sand necessary to carry the ball in the air.

The trajectory of a golf ball and the distance it travels depends on its initial trajectory, speed and spin, as well as what it's moving through (air). The air is not always the same. It varies in temperature, pressure, humidity and density. If there were no air whatsoever, the golf ball would not travel far. Likewise, if a ball is hit in air with no spin, it will not travel far.

Bermudagrass has a very different texture than rye, bluegrass or bent. It grows with a great deal of grain and the blades of grass are "prickly" and more dense. Players with steep swings sometimes get the blade of the club stuck in the ground. This is particularly true with blade irons with thin soles with very little camber. Thicker soles, more camber and bounce are features that make shots from bermudagrass slightly easier for steep swingers.

Golf Swing
You cant fire a gun unless you pull the trigger, right? A similar concept also applies to the golf swing, which also usually requires a trigger move to get the body moving. Now, not everyone has a trigger, some manage to swing well from a static position to a dynamic position. But for the rest of us who often find confusion when it comes to where to start the golf swing, a trigger move can help you start swinging in a fluid and consistent manner.

Narrow Your Focus
Consistently making short putts is as much a mental challenge as it is a physical one. To help maintain concentration, find a blade of grass directly in front of the middle of the hole as you prepare to strike the putt. Don't look at the hole itself or the back of it, but simply try to roll the ball over the spot on the front of the hole. Using the front of the hole makes the target closer and makes your focus that much more specific.

When it comes to putters the general rule of thumb is that if you CAN putt with a conventional putter, then you SHOULD putt with a conventional putter. But if you've got the yips or are too "handsy," a belly putter or long putter (also called a broomstick putter) might be worth checking out. Both reduce wrist action but distance control becomes dicier. Golfers with back woes might want to look at a long putter.

Donegal Golf Club: Welcome to a Great Golfing Experience
Golf is a game of patience, smarts, dedication, discipline and a whole lot of fun. While many have shunned away from golf because they may think its a boring, slow-paced game, this view has changed quite a lot with so many people now playing the game.
Golf courses are now seen as a venue for relaxation and a way to relieve stress. Thats why so many overworked weekend golfers have set their sights to having a dream golf vacation. And one of the more popular countries that have emerged as a Mecca for golf vacations is Ireland.
With its mesmerizing natural beauty and the landscape that was seemingly created for the game of golf, many golf courses have been erected and patronized both by local and tourist golfers. It is no wonder that some of the golf courses in Ireland has been celebrated as among the top golf courses all around the world.
One of these is a golf course found in the northwest area of Ireland in a town called Donegal. The Donegal Golf Club was founded in 1959 and was erected in the edge of the town at Tullycullion. It stayed there for 14 years until it moved to the Murvagh Peninsula were it is situated until today. It has been the venue of prestigious championships such as the 1979 Irish ladies Close Championship and the 2003 Mens Irish Close Championship, a testament to its great design and world class amenities and facilities.
This full 18-hole championship par 73 golf course is measured at 7280 yards and is a classic links. The course is expansive and wide open and is mostly made up of low dunes. The play is hard and fast on this course but the scenic ambience allows a player to stop for a while and just soak in the view. The Atlantic Ocean gives out a stunning scenery as well as the mountains that are easily seen in the other side of the course.
Before you go out to challenge the course, you can hone your skills and warm up in what the Donegal Golf Club boasts as the best practice facilities in Northwest Ireland. There you can find facilities such as a driving net, a chipping green with bunkers, a putting green, a driving range with an automatic ball dispenser and there is even a par 3 Junior course.
The Donegal Golf Club's course Pro is also all too willing to provide lessons for beginners and novices.
Conquering the course is one thing, but at the end of the day, you can get the chance to enjoy the club's facilities and just relax and soak in the events of the day.
You can go directly to the locker room and freshen up with its state-of-the-art amenities and wonderful service. Visitors lockers are available and shower facilities are first rate.
After freshening up, you can go to the restaurant for a hearty meal of sumptuous Irish cuisine. Or if you want, you can take your golfing buddies with you are meet some of the locals at the bar for some drinks. Keep your memories alive of your golf vacation trip at Donegal with some logo embedded clothing at the club's shop.
When it is finally time to pack up your bags and head on to Ireland, the Donegal Golf Club should always be at the top of your vacation golf spots in Ireland list.

Hints On Indoor Putting Green
This is a very common problem for golfers and it's an awkward adjustment. The solution is very simple, however. Instead of setting your driver behind the ball such that the center of the face is aligned with the ball, move backwards a couple of inches (towards your back) such that the toe of your driver is aligned with the ball. Now do the test again. Stretch out your arms and pick the club up to the ball's height. Is the ball aligned with the center of the driver face? If so, put the club back down and fire! If not, keep moving back until it is.

Although they might look somewhat similar, the mechanics of hitting a bunker shot are different than those used to play a chip shot from grass. In the sand, it's actually advantageous to allow the clubhead to pass your hands past impact. This move encourages a higher, softer shot by increasing the clubhead speed and amount of spin that can be created. Due to the unstable nature of sand, think of these shots as more handsy than most others in golf.

Cure that golf hook
By: Mister Putt
By far and away the most common fault of the weekend golfer is the dreaded slice. We have all seen it, a hundred yards down the fairway and suddenly the ball turns right and disappears into the undergrowth. There are a thousand books and articles on it, why it happens and how you can cure it.
But what if you have the opposite problem, a hundred yards straight down the fairway and oh..oh exit stage left. This is the classic hook. How do you cure that? I hear you cry.Never fear Mister Putt is here.Like most faults the quickest wayto cure it is to go back to basics.Let me clear up one myth straight away, listen up..Practice Makes Perfect , no, no, no practice makes permanent (Thank you Dave Pelz )If your practice is faulty your golf will be faulty.
The Basics
Grip;Hold the club in your left hand down by your side, arm hanging down relaxed.Lift the club head up so the shaft is parallel to the ground and then lower it to the floor again, do this three times, feeling where the tension is in your arm.
Concentrate on leaving this tension behind. Now bring the club in front of you and at the same time bring your right hand to the club. Now the hard bit , as you close your right hand around the club try not to manipulate it in any way, by which I mean the club should not turn left or right at all.Now you should have a neutral grip, neither hand being dominant.Hookers have a tendency to turn their right hand over the top .The "V"sbetween your thumbs and index fingers should be pointing up to your right ear.You can check this in a mirror. Now with your neutral grip and relaxed arms just swing the club head backwards and forwards in a small arc. This will ease tension.Golf is a moving game and tension is the enemy of motion.Keep swinging in increasingly larger arcs always being aware of any creeping stiffness( tension) in the arms.Do this every day for ten minutes or so.Remember the object is to swing rhythmically are not attempting a 300 yard drive!
Address; You should stand with your feet just under the width of your shoulders ,a slightly narrower stance helps with balance, and helps you swing more rhythmically. Your toes should be level and in line with your shoulders ,again check in a mirror at home and get used to the feeling. You line up to the target line or fractionally left of it.Ball position is level with your left heel.Further back will encourage a hooking shot. This brings us to the last point, weight transfer.
Weight Transfer;Weight transfer refers naturally enough to the transfer or shift of your weight from the right side to the left.(opposite sides for lefties). The backswing requires you to pull your weight onto the back foot and indeed you should feel this in your right thigh and as you swing through the ball that weight must move onto the left leg, if it stays back on the rear leg you will turn the club over and rotate to the left causing the ball to hook.A practice drill I use is to
address an imaginary ball while my left calf is against a low pillar in my garden, as I swing I concentrate on pushing my leg into that pillar. This also forces me to swing in time and finish in a balanced position.Try it.
I hope these tips can help you cure that hook and give you something to do in the bedroom on a rainy day.
Happy thoughts

To start with a proven ball position. Moving a golf ball even two inches forward or back in your stance can make a great deal of difference in shot consistency. Start with the ball a couple of inches inside the left heel. After you master this consistent ball position, you can experiment with other ball positions. However, a ball too far to the front of your stance will increase the chances of a slice by encouraging an outside-to-inside swing. A ball too far back in the stance will make it difficult to get the clubface closed by impact and may cause a push or a push slice.

How does a player cultivate the proper length of backswing? We are all individuals and our muscle coordination is not the same, therefore it would be foolish to try to force the club to a parallel position at the top of the backswing. Flexed and relaxed, the legs are able to be moved by the rotation of the upper body, in no way inhibiting the turn. While the legs dont initiate the backswing, they contribute to the wind up of the body against the ground. A good thought is to imagine the legs as braces that connect you to the ground.

Golf Etiquette Tips For The Golf Beginner
By: George Gabriel
Ive played with a lot of golfers who truly take the game of golf seriously and a lot of golfers who dont. Its okay to have fun out there, keeping in mind respect for other players who do take it serious.
The tee box
Think of the tee box as a stage with a spotlight. Everybody gets his or her turn to shine. Try to remain quiet and out of the golfers view, including your shadow that may hinder the golfers concentration at address. The best position to stand when a player is addressing the golf ball would be to the other side, opposite of his golfers arm extension. You should be standing far enough back to see the club head and golf ball of the player addressing the ball. By taking this position, you would definitely be giving the player room to concentrate, unless he can see your shadow or hear the chatter of your clubs or talk. When you must stand behind or front of a golfer addressing his or her shot, take a second to ask if its okay and or are you far enough away. Act like a caddie when another player is playing a shot. Watch the golf ball finish rolling and mark the spot with a tree or bush. A lot of golfers do not like to watch their ball land, if its a bad shot. By doing this for your fellow golfer, it will help speed up play. Try to refrain from yelling nice shot or great shot, when youre around another tee box or green. When you must tell a joke, wait until its youre stage.
The green
Around the green can be a little more complex for the new golfer. Fix as many golf marks as you can, besides your own. A lot of golfers do not fix their ball marks on approaches to the green. Sometimes players get excited about their golf shot and forget. Ask other players to help, if there is more than a couple and your not holding up other players behind you.
There are typically four or three golf balls lying on the green. The key goal here is not to walk on anothers players line to the golf hole. When you find another player is further back from the hole, you should mark your ball. When approaching your golf ball, you have to be careful as to where you walk. Another players line to the hole should not have a big footprint to go over. Try stepping over the players line to the hole, or go around carefully watching for other players golf positions to the hole. When youre not sure, because of a marked ball. Ask your competitor where his ball is marked. When another golfer is about to putt, stay still until he or she takes their putting stroke, unless they give you the okay to walk. When you must walk to where you want to go. Do not stop, walk, stop, and walk again. It could be more distracting than a continuous walk.
The golfer closer to the hole should tend the pin. Ask your competitor if they need the stick tended. When tending the pin, be careful not to cast a shadow over the players line. Also keep the flag from waving in the wind by holding it against the flagstick. Position yourself with both feet together away from the hole. Bend the flagstick slightly if you have to keep your feet out of another players line. When the shot is taken, pull the pin so your competitor does not get penalized for hitting the flagstick. When its someone elses turn, ask if he or she needs the pin tended. When you think you may need it tended, ask someone to hold it for you.
The game of golf originated out of fun. There are those that take it quite seriously. Follow most of these tips, and it could be quite enjoyable, and you may not have a problem finding a foursome to tee it up with.

More Information On Golf Drivers
You've heard that a golf-specific workout will help you get more distance, so you're pumping iron, jogging religiously, stretching - but you still haven't gained any distance off the tee. What's the deal? An exercise program will indeed help you gain distance, but you also need to have good swing technique to take advantage of your strength and flexibility.

The reason for good extension in the follow through is to keep the clubface accelerating at impact! The reason that the slice is so common is that many players try to keep the clubface angle square to the target throught and after impact. This actually opens the face, resulting in a left to right spin to the ball (Slice).

Late flourish puts in-form Perry in Classic contention
Mon, 14 Jul 2008 00:00:01 +0100

Kenny Perry finished with a flourish to move into a three-way tie for the lead through three rounds at the John Deere Classic in Silvis, Illinois. Perry, seeking his third victory in five starts, birdied the 18th hole to finish with a four-under 67 for the day and 15-under 198 for the tournament. That tied him with Eric Axley (67) and Brad Adamonis (66), who at 35 is the US PGA Tour's oldest rookie. Jay Williamson (62) and second-round leader Will MacKenzie (70) were one stroke back.

Speed Controls Distance-The seemingly obvious fact that the sand (not the club) moves the ball out of the bunker is often misunderstood. To control the distance your bunker shots travel, you have to be able to manage the speed of the sand, which isnt as difficult as you might imagine. The length of the swing is irrelevantits the speed of the clubhead that really matters. Practice pitching sand out of a bunker until you can consistently control how far it goes, and only then add a golf ball to the equation.

Brian Viner: McDowell defies fearsome wind with famous stroke at the 16th
Sat, 19 Jul 2008 00:00:01 +0100

On another day more suited to moorhens than birdies and eagles, Graeme McDowell managed to cling onto the leaderboard yesterday without ever quite reproducing the form that had yielded one of only three sub-par opening rounds and a share of the lead. The 28-year-old Ulsterman is used to leading the Open on day one, having posted a course record 66 down the coast at Hoylake two years ago, but he slumped to a final-round 79 that year and finished a distant 61st. This time, he is determined to keep the campaign going, and if a European is to prevail at Birkdale for the first time in nine Opens, he is certainly the form horse.
